Mercedes-Benz EQB
Hot on the heels of their flagship EV, the EQS, Mercedes-Benz have now shown their compact seven-seat SUV in electric form, the EQB.
Based on the GLB, the new EQB will rival cars such as the recently unveiled Audi Q4 E-tron and will come in both two and all-wheel drive. The first car to hit the UK market will be the EQB 350 4Matic, featuring dual motors (hence the 4Matic badging) producing 288bhp. The battery is a 66kWh lithium ion one that can deliver a range of 260 miles on the WLTP cycle. It can also charge at up to 100kW from a DC rapid charger.
Other models that follow will include the front wheel drive EQB 250 with 188bhp and the EQB 300 4Matic which uses the same dual motor set up as the EQB 350 but with “around 241bhp”. The UK should see these models in 2022.
In the same way that the smaller EQA only differs in detail styling elements from its combustion engine sibling, the GLA, so to the EQB follows a similar path. Styling changes over the GLB include the blanked-off grille new lights with the front headlamps joined by the light bar and new bumpers front and rear.
On the inside, there is the choice of five or seven seats, however due to the location of the electric components, the five-seat car has a smaller boot over the GLB. Unique digital instrument graphics and a rose gold colour for the facia vents and dashboard as well as ambient lighting also differentiate the EQB.
Customers will also be able to order the car with the optional AMG Line styling pack that brings restyled bumpers and 20-inch alloy wheels among other bespoke details.
