Volkswagen ID.4 GTX
We’ve had ‘GTI’, ‘GTD’ and even ‘GTE’, and so now we welcome ‘GTX’, the performance variant of Volkswagen’s ID range.
Starting with the ID.4 crossover, the ‘GTX’ moniker is a revitalised one from the days of the old Scirocco and is the first of the brand’s performance EVs. It is also the first ID.4 to gain four-wheel drive, thanks to a twin motor application, one adorning each axle. Power is rated at 299bhp meaning a 0-62mph sprint of 6.2 seconds.
A 77kWh battery allows a WLTP range of up to 298 miles, and elsewhere there is a 15mm lower ride height and the option of a ‘Sports Plus’ package that adds progressive steering and adaptive dampers.
On the inside there is the standard 10-inch infotainment system, or the optional of a larger 12-inch screen with augmented reality maps, dark blue dashboard insert and the obligatory red stitching. On the exterior, there is a gloss black air intake grille, black roof and rear spoiler, as well as black badges and a redesigned rear bumper with unique insert on the diffuser.
UK sales will start towards the end of 2021 with a price tag of around £50,000.
