Aston Martin Rapide E

The British marque Aston Martin may be known for their growling V8s and big bore V12 engines, but all is about to change! Behold the all new production ready Aston Martin Rapide E have taken their existing 4 door grand-tourer and packed a little bit more oomf inside, in the form of a 65kWh battery system. The Rapide E will be the first car to be built at Aston Martin’s state-of-the-art St Athan production facility, the brand’s so called “Home of Electrification”. Only a 155 will be made, so if you’re interested, get to signing the paper!

The Rapide E’s range is over 200 miles, while the model is capable of charging at a rate of 1851,2 miles of range per hour using a typical 400V 50kW charger.

Top speed for the electric tourer is limited to 155mph as standard, which will be reached quickly thanks to a sub 4 second 0-60mph time and a 50-70mph time of a measly 1.5 seconds! These figures are not restricted to a narrow window of battery charge or climatic conditions, instead, the Rapide E will be able to deliver its performance in a consistent and repeatable way. This includes the ability to drive a full lap of the Nürburgring with no performance derating of the battery or the motors. Clearly Aston Martin have designed the Rapide E with speed in mind!

Design wise, not much has been changed over the standard Rapide as far as the eye can see, other than some fancy new blue tinted carbon on the launch car, and the large battery which has ben forced into the front of the car. However, a set of dashing new aero wheels help to lower drag and help make the car more efficient too.

Overall, we can’t wait to see these electric Aston’s hit the street, alongside their recent announcement of the Heritage EV line which will be powered by the same powertrain as the Rapide E. Roll on the future! (even if it is in an old DB6’s shell, we can’t complain!)
